Hi crougal

Firstly I would like to point out that, unlike London or Paris, Berlin is a city (due to the division of the city after WWII) that is spread out over a large area. Therefore, wherever you stay, you are likely to have to travel by public transport in order to see all of Berlin. Nevertheless, the area around the Brandenburg Gate is certainly a good nucleus for your stay in the German capital.

I have no idea of what you consider %26#39;pricey%26#39;, but I would imagine that the Hotel Adlon, Berlin%26#39;s most exclusive hotel and situated right next to the Brandenburg Gate, would be well out of your price range! A quick search I have just conducted on www.expedia.co.uk returned dozens of hotels in and around central Berlin. The Delta Hotel Berlin (3*) looked a good bet in terms of location. It is just a short walk from Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. A stay from 24 March to 26 March was quoted at (GBP)£102.44 based on two persons sharing an en-suite room, i.e. (GBP)£51.22 per person for the two nights.

There were a few other hotels which were even cheaper but furhter from the centre. The NH Berlin-Treptow (4*) for example was quoted at (GBP)£70.42 for two persons for the same stay ((GBP)£35.21 per person). There is an S-Bahn (urban train) station 300 metres from the hotel with trains running every five to fifteen minutes to the city centre. A 3-day Berlin Welcome Card allows unlimited travel on the S-Bahn, U-Bahn (underground), buses and trams for the period of its validity, as well as reductions on entry to a number of museums and boat trips, for just €22.

Hello,

i have just come back from a four day spell in Berlin. We stayed in the Suitehotel Potsdamer Platz, which is owned by the same people as the Ibis. we booked direct from the company website at a cost of 50 a room per night for a double bedroom, that was massive. Check out the reviews for this hotel on tripadvisor. Its 3* but ive stayed in worst 4* hotels and i think this was a real find. The brandenburg gate was in easy walking distance from this hotel. We also came from Schoefield, and we took two trains to get to the hotel, which was really simple as there are lots of English instructions. Like the other person said, we will have to get the tube to some places, unless you take a tour bus, but you really cant get lost as everything is so well signed and posted in English.

Hi - if you are about to stay on a budget in march you should make sure that you avoid to stay in the period of the itb-trade fair. (7/3 until 11 or 12/3 i think). I tried to get a room and the hotels are really crowded and much more expensive!
