Planning eight nights in Germany

We land in Frankfurt 17 Mar, and I want to see Bacharach, Wurzburg, Rothenburg ODT, Fussen, and maybe Salzburg. Train travel, may rent car 2 days, want to stay in pensions. We fly from Frankfurt also, and I am trying to figure out how to see all these cities in that time. Any advice appreciated. Two ladies first time in Germany.

That is a lot of places to see in eight days. You can surely do it but you will spend a great deal of time traveling and therefore less time enjoying in the country.

As you are flying into and out of Frankfurt, you might want to focus on the Rhine/Mosel Valleys with numerous castles, Rothenburg for the Middle Ages and Wurzburg for baroque.

Fuessen and Salzburg are beautiful but will gobble up your time traveling.

Good Luck and Regards, Gary

I agree that you%26#39;re a bit pressed for time. If you only plan to see Bacharach in the Rhine/Mosel region, it%26#39;s not really worth the trip. There are several other places that are equally or more interesting (Trier, Cochem, Boppard, Burg Eltz Castle near Cochem, Marksburg Castle in Braubach) and that together would make the Rhine a good destination. However, it sounds like most of what you want to see is in Bavaria. I%26#39;d go that direction instead.

In northern Bavaria, I%26#39;d head to Bamberg and Nuremberg before Wurzburg (but the Residenz in W%26#39;burg is very good if you have the time.)

If you are comparing car/train options, you can reach all the destinations you mention, including Salzburg, by train. Once you reach Bavaria (about 15 miles east of Frankfurt) you can travel on the regional (RE, RB) trains with a Bayern Ticket, a daypass good for almost unlimited travel for up to 5 people at less than 25 Euros/day.

This trip can easly be accomplished in your time frame if it is all done by driving, we%26#39;ve done a similar trip leaving out Bacharach in less time when showing some of my family Germany highlights. The distances involved are short and autobahns can be used much of the way. You won%26#39;t be able to see everything in your larger cities but should be able to spend at least a few hours most places. Just use your time efficiently and know what you definitely want to see and do before arriving. Don%26#39;t leave out Salzburg, it is one of my favorite cities in Europe. If driving, make sure that you view Rothenburg from down below by the river, it%26#39;s a nice sight.

At that time of year the places you want to visit shouldn%26#39;t be jam packed with tourists and you should have a good time.
