Schoneberg....is it a nice place to stay?

I have been told about a nice place to stay in Schoneberg. Is it a nice place to be based for sightseeing?

Any advice appreciated:)

Schöneberg is in generel a very nice residential district with nice bars and restaurants especially around Winterfeldmarkt, Goltzstr. and Motzstr. It%26#39;s a central district though not as central as Mitte. Anyway, with public transport it will never take you long to the sights. Some areas in Schöneberg (on the border of Kreuzberg) are not soo nice but still o.k. and - before you start to worry - not dangerous. Whereabouts in Schöneberg is the hotel?

I think its in a road called Welserstrasse.

If you have any comments to make on this road and area aroound it , I would be grateful. This is my first trip to Germany, so I dont want to take a chance on a dodgy place!

Cheers !

Welserstraße is in the really nice part of Schöneberg with some nice restaurants around Viktoria-Luise-Platz, Motzstraße, Prager Platz, Wittenbergplatz.

Don%26#39;t worry about dodgy areas ... Berlin hasn%26#39;t that many and even most of them are not really that dodgy. Anyway, you hardly will get there if you are just visiting Berlin.

Hi hemikiwi,

I live in Schoeneberg and it is great!

Welserstr. is in walking distance to the Ku-Damm (Kurfuerstendamm), the West Berlin shopping mile with its 7 story department store KaDeWe.

Also close is Nollendorfplatz with the newly opened posh club %26quot;Goya%26quot; (http://www.goya-berlin.de/englisch/index.htm)and the cute Café Berio in Maassenstr. Dont miss out the Winterfeldtmarket on saturdays Winterfeldtplatz), here you get a good idea of the locals, its a bit like Notting hill market in London, if you happen to know that... Buy some fruit and souvenirs, listen to the shouting flower venders and have a bowl of Milchkaffee in one of the cafés.

Motzstr. next to Nollendorfplatz is THE gay street with plenty of bars.

Enjoy!

Thanks Peppermint Patty!
