is it worth getting the soap brush massages at Friedrichsbad?
also are they same gender only (ie. men give the men massages and women give the women massages) or is it mixed.
do they ask which you would feel more comfortable with?

What about contacting the Baden-Baden tourist office:

I only saw the soap brush massage, since it was too busy that day and the lady at the front desk would not let me buy one.
I assume that only the same gender is giving the soap brush massage. On the women%26#39;s side, there were two women giving massages. On the men%26#39;s side, my husband said there were men giving the massages. The massages are in the men-only and women-only side of the spa, although my husband thought the women could still look into the room.
I saw the person lie face down on the table and the person with the brush brushing down their back and legs. I didn%26#39;t look long enough to determine if they did the front side or not. It looked like they may use the same brush on multiple people, although I could be wrong. Theoretically, people are somewhat clean by that point, because you are supposed to have done a soap shower before that point.
Briefly watching the two ladies get a soap brush massage, I thought they were being scrubbed very matter-a-factly, like scrubbing the car. It didn%26#39;t look like a relaxing, nuturing experience.
So, other than the same gender person scrubbing you and maybe using the same brush as used on other people on you, you have to decide if it is worth the unique experience while you are there. It didn%26#39;t cost too much more.
You can see my review of the spa (Dec. 22, 2004-Germantown, MD reviewer)

Yes! I have done it several times and it is well worth the small cost. The area in which the massage is done is not coed. Men do men and women do women. There is no choice. They are seperate areas. The only areas that are coed are the bathing areas. You cannot go to this area without going to Friedrichsbad.

I have been to the Friedrichsbad several times. What a wonderful experience. The architecture alone is worth the visit. Yes, you walk around totally naked and in the central pool women and men bath together. There are 15 stations from pools to steam bath and relaxation quarters. The soap massage is outstanding as it is done by professional masseurs (male in the men%26#39;s section and women in the female section). Enjoy !

Yes, definitely worth the experience.
New Age, Aromatherapy this ain%26#39;t! But it is a good solid teutonic scrub!
Yes, men massage men and women massage women. However, it is not uncommon to have women guest wandering around in the men%26#39;s area (maybe they like the large plunge pool on that side). It is also quite common to find women in the men%26#39;s steam rooms. However, the women%26#39;s areas are respected by the men and they do not go in there.
