Munich to Heidleberg by car - suggested sights on the way

We will be traveling by car in September from Munich to Heidleberg and wanted to make the most of our jouney in route to Heidleberg.

1. How long is the drive from Munich to Heidleberg?

2. Any suggested stops along the way or even a little out of the way to Heidleberg?

3. Day trip recommendations from Heidleberg.

Thanks so much!!!

Check up on some of my recent posts about Stuttgart and the surrounding area. The most direct way goes by Stuttgart. There is an excellent fossil museum in Holzmaden (also Stuttgart) just after descending the Schwaebische Alb, if that would interest you. Both it and the one in Stuttgart display local fossils from this world famous collecting area. It is sign posted on the autobahn.

The world heritage Maulbronn monastery is fairly close to Heidelberg and easily accessible by car.

The drive from Munich to Heidelberg should be on the order of 4 hours, unless you run into a traffic jam on the autobahns.

What are you doing about visiting Akureyri?

marcopolo -

We are on the fence about going to Akureyri. We were going to see the home my grandfather lived in but it seems to be so far away just to see the home. For now I think we are planning to just get a car and tour around Rek.

Thanks for the info on Germany.
