Berlin accomodation/ location

I will be in Berlin for 2 weeks during the World Cup in June 06.

I want to rent an apprtment in the city. Any suggestions on which area to rent a flat there? ( Nort, south, east..etc)

I would like it to be close to attractions, city activities as well as easy transportations.

Thanks an advance for your advices

Best would be somewhere on what is on this map

berlin-tourist-information.de/english/suchen…

referred as City Centre East and City Centre West.

If you really have still much choice is another question.

Close to public transport is less a problem.

But keep in mind that Berlin is a huge widespread city.

Perhaps this apartment:

It is in a very good location in Prenzlauer Berg, and my clients loved it.

The Olympiastadion where the games will be played is on the outer west side of town, so the nearby neighborhoods of Spandau, Charlottenburg, Wilmersdorf and Schoeneberg are all good choices with lots of sites, conveniences and flats.

Keep in mind that nearly all hotels are sold out for game dates in Berlin and any flats still available will carry hefty premiums.

That said, Berlin is blessed with an incredibly widespread and efficient public transport network, so really any neighborhood with an S-bahn or U-bahn stop will give you access to the Olympiastadion. Some lower-cost but still safe neighborhoods include Prenzlauerberg, Friedrichshain and other near-east areas.

Unsafe areas include Lichtenberg, Pankow, Weissensee and farther east and northeast suburbs which tend to be unwelcoming to foreigners and specifically harbor some racist elements (although it would be a complete mistake to tar all residents of those areas with that brush).

Enjoy the city -- it%26#39;s one of my absolute favorites! I%26#39;ll be there for the June 30 quarterfinal :-)

Try www.123berlinzimmer.de which has lots of apartments all over the city. Most seem to charge a smallish premium for World Cup time but rates still very reasonable. We booked through them for the place we stayed last Easter (excellent service)
