My daughter and I would like to plan a trip to Germany/Austria. Can anyone give us suggestions of reasonable/reputable tour companies from which we can look at tour packages?

But tour packages play no big role in Germany.
People come for a huge variety of reasons to Germany (e.g. Dutch looking for mountains and nature; while Scandinavians come for big city life).
And it%26#39;s one of the most easy countries to get around by yourself.
I would recommend a German Rail Pass or a Germany-Austria Pass.

You might consider a cruise on the Danube river from Vienna to Nuremberg, followed by a cruise going up the Rhine. A number of companies put on these trips; I just did one with Grand Circle tours after many years of traveling independently and enjoyed it very, very much. Just Google on European river trips to find suggestions.
These tours give you a place to stay for the duration of the trip and then port visits each day. So you have the opportunity to do as much or as little as you want.
