We have 4 days in Franfurt am Main, we like the look of the hotel Steigenberger City, is this a good base to do the tours, walks on foot?

Steigenberger City (Lange Strasse) is in convenient location, a bit east of the city centre. You will have a short walk to the actual old town (1000 m). Frankfurt is a quite concise city in terms of size, so you will be able to walk to most sights. Otherwise use public transport to sights west of the centre. It is excellent, like in most German cities. The old town of Sachsenhausen (the southern part of Frankfurt) is just across the bridge, so you should be fine there.
