Fuel and supplies

Hi, We%26#39;re planning on travelling around Europe this summer by car and just trying to plan a budget for our fuel...whats the average price for petrol in Germany? we%26#39;ll be bringing a camping stove with us aswell and im assuming things like bread, milk, meat etc is quite cheap but ive never been so not to sure. Would €5 get 2 of us enough food to share? eg Bread, cheese, fruit? any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

Germany is a relatively cheap country in comparision to other European nations - particularly in comparison to the United Kingdom or Denmark.

When I was in Munich in December, a litre of unleaded petrol (Benzin) was selling for aprrox. €1.10. As for food, so long as you shop at one of the budget supermarkets such as Aldi or Plus, €5 would definately get you some bread, cheese and milk. Meat, however, is a little more expensive.

...bear in mind, however, that Germany has a strict recycling policy. Most bottled drinks carry an extra tax (Pfand) that is added at the checkout. The price shown on the shelf is generally exclusive of this tax. Expect to pay anything up to 25 cents per bottle.

The tax is however refundable if you return you bottles to the shop for recycling.
