Schwebebahn/monorail in Wuppertal question.

What is the Emperor’s carriage (Kaiserwagen)?

I see it travels between Vohwinkel and Oberbarmen. Any city along the way worth a visit?

Is it best to stay in Wuppertal, if staying in this region? I%26#39;ve read it described as Germany%26#39;s San Francisco - where you are either walking uphill or downhill. (Oh gosh, we%26#39;ll be pushing at least 1 stroller.) If that%26#39;s the case, a %26quot;flatter%26quot; city would be ideal.

I%26#39;ve been to schwebebahn.de/.com and wuppertal.de-but it%26#39;s in German.

Wupptertal is a nice city, however there is not much going on there. I stayed there on a couple of different weekends, and the most fun that I had was riding the Schwebebahn.

Personally, I would stay in Köln or Düsseldorf and make Wuppertal a side trip. From the Köln Haupbahnhof, the trip is between 30 and 45 minutes and from Düsseldorf it is less than 20 min.

Wuppertal is a collection of formerly independent towns in the Wupper Valley (= Wuppertal). And their centres are mainly in the valley (i.e. flat parts).

Germany%26#39;s San Francisco? Well there%26#39;S hills all right, but otherwise, the scenery is STRICTLY urban-industrial (or rather, urban-ex industrial). Think Detroit.

The Kaiserwagen has its own website at www.kaiserwagen.de (in German). It can be booked for private parties, and there are scheduled outings. You need to pre-book your seat on these, at EUR 14.50 per person for adults - click on %26quot;zur Online-Buchung%26quot;, then on %26quot;Termine-Tickets buchen%26quot; to book online.

(%26quot;Zum Kaffee%26quot;: includes cake and coffee -or hot chocolate if you don%26#39;t like coffee- ; %26quot;zum Frühschoppen%26quot;: includes Kottenbutter sandwiches AKA black bread w/ sausage and chopped onions, and Beer/mineral Water; %26quot;am Abend%26quot;: as before, but in the evening (i.e. after nightfall)).

I meant US%26#39;s/California%26#39;s San Francisco. Sorry. Thanks for all the answers. Doing some research for our next trip, which will be in early %26#39;07, hopefully.
