Already planning for next New Year and was wondering what Berlin would be like. Where is the best area to stay for nights out as the city seems so big. Any tips on area, hotels and what it is actually like over the New Year period would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It depends on what you like.
Basically:
- generally what%26#39;s like: it is cold (around freezing) at this time of the year. Also be prepared for obscene amount of fireworks and firekrackers.
- parties: there is usually a huge party in Brandenburg Gate and many-many smaller parties all over town. If you want to go to the central party, sta around Potsdamer Platz (Anhalter Bahnhof is also OK); if not, it really depend on your age and interests.
- In any case, public transportation in Berlin is superb, and any place that is close enough to U Bahn or S Bahn station, would do. Even in not-so-fashionable (or central) area: on NYE, trasportation runs throughout the night.
