Planning on visiting the Karlsruhe area between 12/27 to 12/29. Any suggestions for sightseeing, castles or scenic country side?
Also, looking for information on my family who moved from this area around 1900 to US and would like to create a family tree?

For the family tree, go to the nearest Latter Day Saints (Mormon) family center. They have excellent records from Germany. We had more luck there looking for my wife%26#39;s grandparents%26#39;records than visiting the village where they had grown up and left to the US from.
As to Karlsruhe places: There are good trains to Heidelberg, Baden-Baden or, if you have a car, Speyer and - a bit west of Speyer - the villages along the Weinstrasse. (wine road).

While the villages in the Weistrasse region are indeed best explored by car (though not necessary, there are a lot of local busses too in case you don%26#39;t want to drive) Speyer has good train connections to Karlsruhe, as have all bigger towns in the area.
You can also go to Wissembourg/Weissenburg at the German/French border, they have a beautiful old town and a huge monastery.
