Germany in February???

My parents are visiting me (I live in Heidelberg), so I am looking for things to do in the area. Are there any festivals or events in cities during 1st two weeks in Feb? (They won%26#39;t be here through Mardi-Gras.) Maybe Baden Baden?

They love to travel, see sights, community events and of course, eat great food! Museums are OK, but prefer checking out cities.

Baden Baden is great any time of the year. The shopping and atmosphere can%26#39;t be beat. Especially if they want to hit one of the spas for a soak.

Maybe from Baden Baden they%26#39;d like Strasbourg. With only a 30 minute train ride they could see part of France. The city center around the cathedral is an easy walk, even in the cold, from the train station. Great shopping and french cuisine near the cathedral. Food will be much more expensive than in Germany, but it is very different.

I enjoy the Guggen music festival in Scwaebisch Gmuend (Germany%26#39;s largest)which probably will occur in the first half of February this year. The Guggen bands will come from southern Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein and their elaborate costumes are wonderful. Last year was really charming with the icicles hanging out of the mouths of the gargoyles on the church, and costumes heads and large musical instruments left in snow banks outside of the bars as band members went inside to warm themselves up.

February is one of our favorite months to travel in Germany. Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Neuschwanstein Castle are fabulous in the snow and without all the tourists. However, the swan grotto at Linderhof won%26#39;t be visitable. World heritage Maulbronn monastery is also fairly close to you as is the large perfectly preserved baroque palace at Ludwgsburg. Stuttgart also has plenty to do and see.
