We are 3 adults and will be in Berlin for a week late March to early April. Would like to explore areas around Berlin. How reasonable is it to plan on going to Dresden and Meissen for a day. Any tips on doing this or other day trips from Berlin would be appreciated.

Take the train to Spandau and walk through the town down to the river here you can take a boat trip to explore some of the waterways that skirt the Berlin Region.
Another idea take the S Bahn Line 3 to Rahnsdorf then tram to Wolterdorf Schleuse, here you step back into time to how East Germany used to be Trams mixing in with road traffic on cobbled streets, a small soviet cementry on the outskirts of the town and at the terminus are two lakes seperated by the Schleuse and plenty of places to eat and drink.

A nice place for a day trip is Potsdam which is easily reached by public transport.
You could go to Dresden just for a day but I personally think you should spent there more than just one day.
Another good destination for a day trip is Warnemünde on the Baltic Coast. It%26#39;s a cute town but not that big and you can easily spend a relaxing day there.

As mostlybytrain already said you could go to Spandau for half a day or day. Spandau is Berlin most westerly district and has a nice old quarter as well as a pretty old citadel which is worth visiting.

Dresdan is only a 2hr.train ride from Berlin. We stopped there in May on way to Prague.It%26#39;s worth a day trip.Go to the church tower and check out the view.Only drawback is a long walk up the stairs. You won%26#39;t be disappointed if you go.
