DB timetable

names of the main railway stations

(you can use the shortcuts in brackets with the timetable)

Köln Hbf (K)

Frankfurt(Main)Hbf (F)

Amsterdam Centraal

names of the airport train stations

Köln/Bonn Flughafen (CGN)

FRA FrankfurtAirport *)

Schiphol

*) Frankfurt Airport has 2 railway stations. A regional train station %26quot;Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Regionalbf%26quot; and a far distance train station %26quot;Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf%26quot;.

From Cologne to Frankfurt there are 2 routes:

1. the ICE highspeed line

Fast (up to 300 kph) but also expensive.

2. the old route along the Rhine

Really scenic, slower but also cheaper.

You can enforce the Middle Rhine Valley route by giving %26quot;Koblenz%26quot; as a via station in the DB timetable.

If you have time, the trip along the Rhine to Frankfurt is a scenic one - many hills, valleys, vineyards, and some castles. There is not much to see once you pass Mainz, however.

When we were in Germany last October, I remember specials for travel to Amsterdam being advertised at the hauptbahnhofs. From Koln/cologne to amsterdam, the special fare is 19 euro w/ restrictions of: number of tickets is limited, use of selected train is required, and refund excluded. Otherwise, the normal fare is 48,20 euro. Travel is on the ICE train and takes about 2.5 hours. It leaves at :18 after the hour during the hours of 08, 10, 14, 16, 18, 19.
