Hi, We%26#39;re staying in the Swissotel in Berlin from 21 to 23 December and wondered if anyone could recommend some great Xmas Markets near there. Many Thanks.

The closest one is just around the corner on Breitscheidplatz/around the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial Church. It%26#39;s o.k. but in my opinion not the nicest one. My favourite one is the one on Gendarmenmarkt where you could get easily by underground.

We stayed in the Swissotel last weekend and got a taxi to the Gendarmenmarkt (not sure that%26#39;s the right spelling!). It was a great place to go, especially in the evening and they have a great fun fair. But wrap up warm.....it was freezing!! And very very busy!
We took a taxi from the hotel to the market and it only cost us 10 euros which I thought was brilliant! We%26#39;re a family of four so it was cheap and a good way to see Berlin.
We had a great time, hope you do too!

Many thanks to you both for your great replies. Very Helpful and I%26#39;ll definately make sure to pack our winter woolies!

We stayed in Berlin last weekend and went to The Kaiser Wilhelm market. It gets very bust at the weekend and I agree with Berlingal, it%26#39;s not the best. It seems to consist mainly of fast food stalls and mulled wine stalls with a few stalls offering the usual christmas ornaments etc. Gendarmenmarkt is much nicer and is surrounded by some very impressive buildings. There is a small charge of 1 euro per person to enter and the stalls are better laid out and of better quality than other markets we have been to. The decorations, lights and trees are very pretty. There is a small stage with various entertainment all day. Some of the little stalls offer very good food and often a table needs to be booked in advance! There was no sign of any fun fair though. There is a fun fair at the market in Mitte near Alexander Platz but the market at Alexander Platz itself is a waste of time. There is an ice rink there though. Another nice market we went to was in Spandau. It%26#39;s a bit of a trek but it%26#39;s quite big and varied and Spandau itself is a very old nice area. There is a nativity scene there with donkeys and sheep.

All this sounds really great. We are coming to Berlin between Christmas and New Year. The only other live nativity scene I have ever come across was in Nice, France last year. It was amazing ...hope this one is as good

Will the nativity scene still be there on the 28th-31st December ?

@sunshade3
The Christmas market in Spandau will be closed down on the 23rd December, so I guess the nativity scene will be gone as well.
As far as I know only the Christmas Market on Gendarmenmarkt will be still open after Christmas
