The Adlon is coming up on venere at 288€ a night so might not be what you had in mind!

If you go to venere.com and choose Mitte as a district you get places which are mainly very central and at a variety of rates (from Adlon down). Schöneberg and Tiergarten areas are central too (West Berlin before, whereas Mitte was East Berlin and is more monumental part).

One listed there that I%26#39;ve stayed in is 3-star Hotel Tiergarten near the new Interior Ministry in Moabit (easy access to S-Bahn and U-Bahn). Most memorable for its most incredible breakfasts!

You should give Myers Hotel a chance...not cheap, but good location. It%26#39;s near Alexanderplatz and Kollwitzplatz....there you find many restaurants, bars and some clubs...

At www.venere.com you get a good overview on the location of the hotels - but the rates for berlin are not too good. My experience is that they are very good for hotel-bookings in italy but often are behind in Germany. The best rates for berlin i usually get with www.dhr.de. They don´t show the rates on their homepage and you have to send a mail - so it´s not as comfortable as on other sites, but the rates are often unbeatable. And yes - there are good hotels that are centrally located, no matter if you stay kudamm or mitte or potsdamer platz... :-)
