Where to stay in Berlin!!

We plan to be in Berlin for a few nights in September and are looking for a Bed and Breakfast, hotel, or apartment to rent while we are there. It is for my husband and I. We are seniors and would like to be centrally located to walk to some sites and enjoy city life. I do speak German and prefer smaller nice hotels or B and B%26#39;s. Any suggestions? Oh yes, we are on a budget and would not want to spend more than about 100 EU a night. Thanks. Ann

My foavourite district of Berlin is %26quot;Prenzlauer Berg%26quot;...lively (even at night), safe (even at night) and open-hearted.

A good accomondation could be this, haven%26#39;t been there but the reviews are very good:

The location is absolutely ok: central, several restaurants, supermarkets and a metro station nearby. From there it takes you circa 20 minutes to the touristical hot spots.

Thanks, Solid8, the place looks nice but when I checked further I saw where it was also a hostel and I am not sure that would be best. A friend suggested Charlottenburg. She thinks that there are more museums and concerts in the former East Berlin than in the West, so I guess I should check that area. Any more suggestions would be good. Ann

It doesn%26#39;t really matter where you stay in Berlin, because the city has an excellent public transport system. Being on a budget, I would recommend to check a hotel or B%26amp;B you like and leave the rest to Berlin%26#39;s subway system. Check B%26amp;Bs on this website, there seem to be a few good and reasonably priced ones (e.g. the Circus sounds good. I%26#39;m thinking about staying there when I go next time), unfortunately I have no experiences with them.

Hi Ann,

Charlottenburg is the center of the former West.

There you have good shopping facilities and also many restaurants. However, I don%26#39;t like it very much, as it is a bit old fashioned and not exciting at all. I prefer the former East, there you have almost all touristical hotspots and (as your friend mentioned) many famous museums. The most important district is %26quot;Mitte%26quot;, the center of the former East. Prenzlauer Berg is in the east, just next to Mitte, less touristic, less expensive but still central.

But as mentioned it doesn%26#39;t really matter where you stay as long as you have a subway station nearby (perfect for tourists is the subway line U2).

Someone in my family swears by the historic Hotel Bogota quite central on the Kurfuerstendamm. Named so after the owner received safe haven in Bogota, Colombia during WWII while the Nazis took over his hotel. Please look at their webpage (under google type in Hotel Bogota in Berlin) and see how special it is--in price, layout, architectural beauty and location. It seems to have everything. I always hear about the friendliness of the staff. I believe this is all written up on their webpage. She was there last December and paid about Euros65 a night with a private bath. Geraldine

Do not look any further than the Schweizerhof on Budapester Strasse. It is centrally located (about 500 yards from the Zoo). Look on the Accor website.
