One Afternoon/Evening in Berlin

We%26#39;re travelling on business this month and we%26#39;ll have just one afternoon and evening to check out Berlin. Any ideas for getting an overview of the ciry, seeing a few special sights, and tasting local food?

Thanks!

take the no 100 bus. it passes all the tourist attractions from east to west (or the other way) for price of a normal ticket. you can get on and off... its a good tip. i love the cafe bar scene in prenzlauer berg, haus bar, kost bar etc. they will tell you where to go out. and cafe amarit is the best indian restaurant in the world. find it nestled with lots of cool bars and art galleries on oranienburger str. dont miss the museaum island. if you have time to do a walking tour starting in hackesche hofe outside movenpick its worth it fo amazing view of history over the island and to the brandenburg gate. lose the tour then and have a beer. and finally go up the alexanderplatz tower. second only to mother moscows tower, its a kitsch cocktail experience not to be missed.

Are you staying overnight or are you leaving in the evening? If you leave on the same day from which airport are you leaving? I don%26#39;t want to send you to a restaurant which is in the opposite direction of the airport.

A nice café/restaurant which offers German food is Gugelhof which is on Kollwitzplatz in Prenzlauer Berg. I think the nearest underground station is called Senefelder Platz.

Sightseeing: you could start at the Potsdamer Platz from where you could walk past the Holocaust Memorial towards Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag. Then you could walk up Unter den Linden towards Alexanderplatz where you walk past a few sights like the Berliner Dom. If you still have time you could check out Nikolaiviertel or Gendarmenmarkt. If you will be near the Ku%26#39;Damm for business you could check out the Breitscheidplatz with Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial Church before catching the bus 200 which drives past Potsdamer Platz where you could get off. You can also take the bus 100 but this one is driving another way towards the Reichstag.

Thanks so much for your help! We%26#39;re arriving departing Tegel and we%26#39;re spending two nights at a hotel located in the Albrechtstraße 12165 Berlin.

Your hostel is in Steglitz which is a district in the south of Berlin. Anyway, there is an U- and S-Bahn station just outside of this hotel so it doesn%26#39;t take you long to get anywhere in central Berlin. With the S-Bahn you can get easily to Mitte and surrounding areas, with the U-Bahn you get easily to the Ku%26#39;Damm area. A very nice area in Charlottenburg is Savignyplatz (Grolmannstr, Knesebeckstr, Bleibtreustr.) where you%26#39;ll find a lot of nice restaurants and bars.

A few restaurants/cafes/bars close to your hotel are

Hoppegarten, Schloßstraße 56 - a basic but homely restaurant/café which offers local and international food.

Feuerbach, Schöneberger Str. 14

Tomasa, Hauptstraße 85 - great cafe, restaurant www.tomasa.de
