Transportation Between Bad Reichenhall & Berchtesgaden

Is it easier to take a train or bus between these two towns? We plan to stay in Bad Rechenhall to be by the spas and take day trips to the Eagles Nest, Salt Mine %26amp; Konigsee. Thanks!

Go by train. For schedules see www.bahn.de

The Berchtesgaden RR station is below the town, but the busses for the Obersalzberg, with connecting bus to the Kehlsteinhaus (aka Eagles Nest)originate at the RR station. The bus (plus, for the last part an in-mountain elevator) is the only way to get to the Kehlstein. For the Koenigsee, Jenner, Salzbergwerk (salt mine) the busses also leave from the RR station. The gondola lift to the top of the Jenner is well worth the trip. You can walk from the base station of the J. to the boat landings for the Koenigsee.

You don%26#39;t say when you are planning to go. From now until about mid-April or beginning of May - depending on snow conditions - the Kehlstein busses won%26#39;t run.

Thanks, Treplow, for the quick response. We are in the early stages of the trip planning which we will probably take in May.

Glad tobe of help. Let me know if you need any other info. Incidentally, Bad Reichenhall is a nice place to stay - - - good restaurants, great shopping, good hotels, the Kurgarten (park) is a nice place for strolling. The nearby cable car to the Predigtstuhl takes you to an area with nice easy hikes and great views of the mountains. Our favorite Cafe is the Dreher, right on the main drag.

We would be quite happy staying for several days in Bad Reichenall but I wonder about the cost of lodging - I need something very affordable. Could you recommend any small inexpensive Pensions, Zimmer, etc.?
