Good nightspots....

Hi!

4 of us are going to Berlin in a couple of weeks. We will be staying at the Moevenpick Hotel. I%26#39;ve read that this is pretty central....does anyone know the name of the area this is in?

Anyway, we are all 20-somethings and first timers in Berlin. I would really appreciate some restaurant, bar and club suggestions (no techno or electro for the club bit!). As far as restaurants, something fairly casual and fun. We will be there on Saturday and Sunday night. How are Sundays in Berlin? Any particular spots to hit that night?

It would perhaps be good to see some live music too....

Thanks in advance!

The Moevenpik Hotel Berlin is in Berlin-Mitte, close to Anhalter Bahnhof and not far from Potsdamer Platz. Indeed pretty central.

Get a copy of one of the magazines Zitty, Tip or Exberliner (English) to see what%26#39;s going on.

The hotel is on the border of the districts Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain and Mitte in walking distance (about 10 min) of the Potsdamer Platz. It%26#39;s really quite central with public transport (S- and U-Bahn) close by so it wont take you long to get anywhere.

On Sunday you should skip the breakfast in your hotel and have a breakfast in one of the many cafes. Berliners love to meet friends for breakfast on Sundays. My favourite breakfast (some even offer brunch) cafes at the moment are

Morgenland, Skalitzer Str. 35, underground station Görlitzer Bahnhof www.cafe-morgenland.net

Hannibal, Wiener Str. 69, underground station Görlitzer Bahnhof www.hannibal-berlin.de

Café Courage, Saarbrücker Str. 17, underground station Senefelder Platz

Café Tomasa, Motzstr. 60, underground station Viktoria-Luise-Platz

I don%26#39;t really know restaurants around your hotel and the ones at Potsdamer Platz are a complete rip-of in my opinion. If you don%26#39;t mind travelling for a bit you could go to Oranienburger Str where you find quite a few nice bars/restaurants. In many bars/cafes you will get some food as well. Other areas for going out are Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain (around Simon-Dach-Str.), Kreuzberg (around Bergmannstraße).

Can%26#39;t really help with clubbing as I hardly go clubbing anymore. Anyway, I quite like the Trompete at Lützowplatz, Kalkscheune and Kulturbrauerei. A lot of places have different themes depending on the day of week. It%26#39;s best to get a copy of TIP, Zitty or Exberliner Magazine where you find everything listed of what is going on where and when. Tip and Zitty are in German, Exberliner is in English.

I haven%26#39;t been to Berlin since the wall opened, (I was there that night) but I%26#39;ve heard that some of the more cutting edge music and clubs are to be found in the area of what was East Berlin. Is this true?

@nuke44

If it comes to clubs than you might find more interesting ones in the Eastern parts but if it comes to pubs/restaurants/bars/live music venues I think there is not so much differnce ... there are all over the city.
