Innsbruck to Neuschwanstein Castle

We are travelling to Innsbruck for a day and half as part of our trip to Austria and we saw some brochures talking about Newschewanstein Castle. Is it possible to get to the Castle and come back within the same day? (or even three quarters of a day?) How do we get there? By train or have to hire a car? How long is the journey roughly?

Thanks!

There is plenty to do in Innsbruck, especially if you get the Innsbruck Card. innsbruck-tourismus.com/xxl/…index.html

For a journey to the castles, a rental car would be the easiest. 1h 23m, 69 miles

From: Innsbruck Austria To: Neuschwanstein Germany

Tours of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles are offered in English on a rotating schedule. You would by your tickets and they will space them out so you can do both. It is quite a hike up to each castle so take the horse drawn cart up to Hohenschwangau and the bus up to Neuschwanstein. Info is at: http://www.hohenschwangau.de/index.php?id=430

It is an easy trip (approx 2 1/2 hours through some incredible mountain roads and tunnels) to get from Innsbruck to Fussen (the town under the castle)I did it in reverse - I left Munich - spent the day at the castle and then went down into Telfs (just outside Innsbruck)Definately an easy day trip with a rental car.

Take the horse drawn carraige up to the castle from Fussen - it is much more fun than the bus or walking.

Enjoy!
