We are planning our arrangements for a trip to Salzburg in August but will be flying to Munich and then travelling on by train. We%26#39;ll be arriving late in the evening so thought of finding a hotel for the night and travelling the next day - possibly spending a few hours in Munich en route.
Would it be better to stay near the airport for the night or somewhere central in Munich itself? Any suggestions for hotels?
As always your assistance is greatly appreciated. I%26#39;m always impressed by the willingness of forum members to share their wisdom!

The easiest thing to do, would be to get a room adjacent to the airport. The Arabella Sheraton Airport Hote Muenchen is a great place to stay.
Another option would be to take the S-Bahn from within the airport to the Hauptbahnhof and stay at the Intercity Hotel in the train station. By doing this, you can catch your train without any hastles and do a little exploring of Munich if you have time.

I second GranP%26#39;s suggestion regarding the Intercity Hotel.

Thanks to you both for your advice - I%26#39;ll check out the hotel you have suggested.

I find the most interesting thing to do in Munich is visit a beer hall in the evening. If your plane arrives early enough and you stay in Munich itself, you might be able to do this.

Thanks Marcopolko although I don%26#39;t think we%26#39;ll have the time in the evening to visit a beer hall. We are however hoping to spend a few hours in the city the day after our arrival to get a flavour of Munich.

It all depends on your budget.
Dorint Sofitel Bayerpost and
Le Meridien are also right at Hauptbahnhof (Hbf; central station) and are more upmarket than the Intercity Hotel. They have good weekend rates.
Or you stay directly at the airport at the Kempinski and visit Airbräu (nice bavarian-style restaurant( beer hall) directly at the airport.
