Any suggestions would be appreciated. I do not want to spend more than euro 100 per night if possible.

Last year we stayed in a pretty suburb of SW Berlin called Zellendorf which had convenient access to the %26quot;Mexicoplatz%26quot; U-Bahn station. I think the hotel was called the %26quot;Landhaus Schlocktensee%26quot; (probably not spelled that way). The owners were very helpful and English-speaking. I found the hotel in the Berlin Tourist website. Make sure you use the S-BAhn %26amp; U-Bahn to get around the city - the trains are user friendly and they go everywhere in the city.

Any hotel at this price range would have English speaking staff. I actually recommend not to stay in Zehlendorf, or any other suburb, but at the centre, either :
- On KuDamm, for example the Swissotel, which my guests liked.
- Or, In the Potsdamer Platz/Anhalter Bahnhof region, there are several decent hotels there, several that belong to Accor (Ibis, Suite Hotel, etc.) and a Moevenpick Hotel (from which one of my guests was actually quite disappointed)
- Or, In the Gendarmenmarkt area (Hilton, for example), or Radisson SAS, if you manage to get a good deal on a hotel there.
Where you should not stay: %26quot;Pension%26quot; (which is like an Inn or a low-end B%26amp;B). Over there, it is not likely that the %26quot;staff%26quot; (usually the owner and his children...) would know German and quite frankly, the service is much worse in these %26quot;German only%26quot; places.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express (Anhalter Bahnof)which is 5 mins from Potsdamer Platz and 10-15mins from The Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag area. We found it good value and it was ideally placed for getting to most of central Berlin. The staff all spoke very good English and the breakfasts set you up until your evening meal if you want. Might be best to try and book on the Holiday Inn website to get best deals (we paid 60 Euros per room per night but I gather you can get it cheaper. Check out the write ups through this site.
From the hotel you can easily get around on foot (we walked to the Checkpoint Charlie museum from the hotel)and as another respondent suggests make good use of the U-Bahn and S-Bahn trains - they are very efficient.
hope you enjoy your stay.

East or West really depends on what to focus on (museums? nightlife? - then East or Potsdamer Platz; shopping? Potsdamer Platz or West). In any case, there%26#39;s a very good public transportation system - so if you%26#39;re hotel is in the centre, it wouldn%26#39;t really matter where in the centre (East or West): you can get to the other areas in no time.

I am just back from a week in /berlin, i stayed at the Interconinental it is 10 mins walk to theKu%26#39;damm and the shops a little more to the gay area or 5 euro in a cab. The staff are very helpfull and friendly. If you want a little cheaper the Dorint Schweizerhof is the other side of the road. If you plan a bit of nightlife i would suuest this area. Are you still coming to Amsterdam?
