OK to stay close to Train Station?

Is the area around the train station safe? I%26#39;m looking at the Hotel Royal and Hotel Condor.

I don%26#39;tr know about these hotels in particular, but the area around the Munich train is probably as safe as any place in downtown Raleigh. Just don%26#39;t flount your wallet, etc. You can find pickpockets anywhere in Europe. In fact, in Munich there are probably more pickpockets per square meter at 11:00AAM at the Marienplatz while everyone stares are the Glockenspiel than there ar at the Hauptbahnhof (main RR station) at 8PM

Thanks Tre. I see you must know the Glenwood area.

The hauptbahnhof area is safe. It is busy, however. Lots of people and traffic.

Hotel Royal on Schillerstrasse is very convenient for its location to the hauptbahnhof (hbf). It%26#39;s about a 5 minute walk from the hbf to the hotel, out the front entrance and off to the right. If you book with them and they issue you a room on the 7th floor at check-in, ask for a room on a lower floor. For access to 7, you take a lift to 6, then walk one flight of stairs to get to 7 - kind of a hassel with luggage. They serve a decent breakfast and offer free use of a computer for internet access. We (2 adults %26amp; 2 little kids) stayed there last October. We didn%26#39;t feel unsafe at all in the hbf area. FYI - There is a nudie bar just down the street from the hotel - the lastest we ever walked past it was at 10 or 11 pm returning from Marienplatz with the little kids, and it was fine.

Thanks again.

I dont have to stay close to the hbf. I have just found this seems to be a central location for everything (with good rates). Does anyone agree?

I don%26#39;t know either of those hotels, but I stayed near at Le Meridien, which is right across the street from Hauptbahnhof. It was great being so close to everything, although it was noisy at night. If you%26#39;re planning on doing any escorted tours, the buses meet you right there. There%26#39;s also an information center nearby that was helpful. As far as being safe--I think so. I didn%26#39;t ever feel threatened or unsafe in any way, even walking late at night.

thank you.

Have your tried looking at Venere.com? It divides Munich into sections and the hotels in each. You%26#39;d be centrally located if you stay in bahnhof nord or bahnhof sud.
