Driving from Fussen to Salzburg in Early April

We will be driving thru the alps in early April.

Is the weather OK at this time of year and is snow still on the roads.

Would we need snow chains if we stick to the major tourist route .

Thanks.

Hi, it would be very unlikely that you would need chains even in winter as you can get from Fussen to Salzburg without much mountain road if you need to. Additionally, the Germans and Austrians are so good at cleaning the roads that even after snow all night and still snowing, I had no problem driving a Passat in that area without chains or snow tires. Have fun!

We%26#39;ve driven this in February with no problems. If you stick to the north side of the Alps the elevations aren%26#39;t that high so there shouldn%26#39;t be much snow, especially in April. If it snows, the main roads that you will be traveling on are kept well plowed, sanded, and salted so you shouldn%26#39;t have any problems. Just make sure that your rental car has snow tires.
