We have booked 2 flights to Munich for 2 weeks in September and this will be our first time to Germany. We are a couple in our late 50`s who are still quite active though don`t want anything too strenuous. Thought of something like 4 nights in Munich, 4 nights in Regensburg then train to Lake Constance for perhaps 6 nights at Lindau for a bit of relaxation. We enjoy walking, general sightseeing (using local transport whenever possible)trying out different restaurants etc. Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on this itinerary.

Four nights in Munich would be fine, but I think four in Regensburg would be more than you need--the town isn%26#39;t that large. Three nights would be ideal, and you could go on to Passau for another night. I%26#39;d recommend the Hotel Platzl, which is right on the Marienplatz.
I was in both Passau and Regensburg in December, and both are very interesting places to visit. Neither requires strenuous walking, although initially you have to climb up to the town center if you can%26#39;t park there. Passau is quite a bit smaller than Regensburg, however, and you can see most of the town in one day. Try to attend a noon organ concert at the cathedral, which has the largest church organ in the world.
In Regensburg, see if you can get advance tickets for a performance by the Domspatzen choir. The concert I heard included men as well as young boys, about 60 in all, and was the highlight of my trip.

Hi ceejay
Lindau is a lovely area to relax in. If you stay on the Island (Insel) you have the old cobbled streets and alleyways and the harbour area with plenty of restaurants, cafes, etc. The train station is next to the harbour, along with easy access to hotels.
From Lindau you can visit most places by boat. I have always found the tourist board to be friendly in Lindau (opposite the station) and they will help with most things.
A trip to Bregenz %26amp; Pfaender is 20 mins by boat and is a good day out. Walk or take the cablecar up the Pfaender (1064m) where they have daily bird of prey shows and the views on a clear day are breathtaking. You can walk back from Bregenz along the lake or return by boat/train. Bregenz also has a fabulous concert stage out on the lake (Bregenzer Festspiele) which hosts operas, plays, classical concerts, etc (check with tourist board as to what is on.)
A day trip to Meersberg is a must and if you love flowers, then a trip to Insel Mainau is also a great day out. There is the Zeppelin Museum at Friedrichshafen, the Rhein falls in Switzerland (coach trip) or you can just hire a bike or put on your walking shoes and off you go. The weather can be changeable in September, although last year was beautiful, as we had such a dreary summer.
A great day out in Munich is the Duetche Museum %26amp; the English gardens is a lovely walk. Hope some of this helps.
