Can anyone give me any information on Elelweiss Lodge, do you have to have a military person with you to stay there? Cost? ETC...

Hi, I lived in Garmisch for over 4 years working for the Dept. of Army. The Edelweiss is run by AFRC (Armed Forces Recreation Europe. The Edelwiess opened shortly after I moved, but it is surrounded by a secure area that requires an military ID to enter. You may be able to stay if you have a military friend who can make the reservation for you and who can get you a special visitor pass. However, I highly recommend going to http://www.garmisch-partenkirchen.de. In the lower left corner you will see the link:
Suchen %26amp; Buchen Sie gleich online!
You can find a wide variety of hotels in the area for different prices. This part of the site is in German, but maybe you can get someone to help. I booked rooms for visitors using this site and was always happy.

There are so many other hotels in Garmisch that you can stay in. Get away from the American resort (you do have to have a visitor%26#39;s pass to stay there). Depending on how long you are staying or what you are looking for, here are two that I like:
Renaissance hotel
Dorint resort and spa
Garmisch is great! You%26#39;ll have a great time.

The last time I was in Garmisch I stayed at Landhaus Hohe Tannen and a military couple was staying there because it was cheaper with breakfast included than at military lodging.
